For Homecoming 2021 the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega are paired with Delta Chi Fraternity and Best Buddies FSU. For those that haven’t heard of the later, Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Best Buddies has a chapter at FSU that is a recognized student organization on campus, they strive to serve IDD community in Tallahassee. This includes, but is not limited to, people with Down syndrome, autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and other undiagnosed disabilities. Best buddy programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.

To get to know members of the FSU Best Buddy organization and their Buddies – the ladies of Alpha Chi & gentleman of Delta Chi organized a field day at local Tom Brown Park. Members participated in an egg and spoon replay race, created friendship bracelets and played various yard games (jenga, connect four, horse shoe, ring toss & yard bowling) and of course tossed around footballs and kicked soccer balls back and forth.
While we didn’t manage to capture everyone in a photo, we had nearly 50 people in attendance! We did manage to capture some action shots, as seen below.
