This is part of the FSL CLIMB speaker series event. Bonnie’s presentation ” Just Another Assault: A Conversation to end sexual violence.” Many of our sisters attended and have shared that the program was informative, and provided resources around sexual violence education and prevention.

Member Kylie shared “Attending Bonny Shade’s presentation on sexual assault awareness was extremely informative and impactful. I, alongside my sister’s felt a connection to Shade’s presentation as awareness for this cause is an important part of Alpha Chi’s philanthropy and mission. As someone who has not been personally effected by sexual assault, it was an eye-opening conversation that helped me learn how to show up for those in our community that have experienced this kind of violence, and ways to prevent sexual assault from occurring. Bonny Shade’s presentation was engaging, funny, touching, and informative all at the same time. I want to thank FSL for hosting this event!”

2023 – Sister Spotlight – Amelia Sieg

The HSF STEM Summit is an annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math conference that gives the best and brightest HSF STEM Scholars an inside track to career success in STEM fields, through a combination of mentoring, professional insights, and career guidance. Each summer, a select group of rising junior and senior students are chosen from a highly competitive pool of current HSF STEM Scholars. I was fortunate enough to be one of those 116 scholars chosen from across the nation to attend this conference located in San Jose, California.
I had the opportunity to interact with some of the leading Hispanic STEM professionals in our country and gain insights on how to achieve excellence, both academically and professionally. Wells Fargo, Lowe’s, Toyota, ExxonMobil, American Express, Bank of America, Electronic Arts (EA), and 3M were sponsors of this event and brought in so many accomplished leaders from within their companies. Each moment of this conference, from absorbing insights from esteemed panelists to engaging in mock interviews and receiving constructive resume reviews, proved to be an invaluable experience.
In a field where representation can be limited, it was empowering to be among so many talented Hispanic individuals, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month. The connections I made and the stories I heard during this event left me with a renewed sense of confidence in my abilities and a heightened belief in the power of diversity and representation. I am also a proud member of Florida State University’s Hispanic Honor Society and am honored to have had the opportunity to represent FSU at this event. Now, I approach my academic and professional career with a greater sense of purpose, knowing that I am part of a community that is breaking down barriers and forging a path for future generations of Hispanics.

2023 – AXΩ hosts ASTP

Alpha Chi Omega nationally has four educational programs, the four programs are rotated among collegiate chapters each year and include InTune, Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP), Let’s Talk Love and Kaleidoscope. These four distinct rotational programs cover topics such as vulnerability, reducing risk, healthy and unhealthy relationships, diversity, equity and inclusion, and more. ALCOHOL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM (ASTP)

The Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP) is an interactive alcohol program acknowledging that college students may choose to drink and focusing on evidence-based education to encourage steps toward reduced risks. The goal of ASTP is to educate students about alcohol, increase students’ ability to critically examine their drinking patterns and eventually implement the skills they learn.

Due to our chapter size, we split up our training into two facilitators with a surprise visit from Momma P ice-cream! A great sweet treat to end session 1, and kick-off session 2

AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATING IN ASTP, OUR MEMBERS WILL:

  • Identify Alpha Chi Omega’s backstops
  • Define a standard drink
  • Evaluate their personal use of alcohol
  • Describe how alcohol affects the body at various levels of consumption
  • Explain factors that influence blood alcohol level (BAL)
  • Identify risk-reduction strategies for alcohol consumption
  • Identify ways to change their current pattern of alcohol use
