FEBRUARY 17-18, 2024 | VIRTUAL

Our VP of recruitment, VP of recruitment information, VP of public relations and marketing, and VP of new member education each attended Alpha Chi Omega’s National Collegiate Growth Academy 2024! This annual training is an opportunity for chapter leaders to acquire new recruitment and marketing strategies as well as strengthen retention and belonging within their chapters. CGA is part of the Real. Strong. Women. Experience, allowing Alpha Chi Omega to act on its commitment to provide structured programming and a community environment where members can live and grow as real, strong women.

2024 Sisters Supporting Sisters Participating in the Relay for Life 5K

On February 17th 2024, sisters laced up their running shoes and gathered at the Integration Statue on the beautiful FSU campus for our Annual Spring 5K in Honor of National Cancer Awareness and Prevention Month~ February is National Cancer Awareness and Prevention Month, a time when the campus community comes together to raise awareness about this critical health issue and show our support for those affected by cancer. The Annual Spring 5K is a fantastic way to engage in this important cause while enjoying a refreshing run or walk through the surroundings of Florida State University. Whether you’re an experienced runner, a casual walker, or just want to be part of a vibrant community event, this 5K is always open to participants of all fitness levels.

Kudos to Sisters Marguerite and Lexi for running and thankful to all sisters who showed up to support!

2024 – Member attends SE Greek Leadership Conference

Founded in 2019, the Southeastern Greek Leadership Association (SGLA) is a voluntary association of fraternity and sorority governing councils in the United States Southeast. SGLA is one of the regional associations throughout North America designed to bring together institutions and individuals with a commitment to the promotion of fraternity and sorority life on college and university campuses.

Member Maddie W had the opportunity to attend the 2024 SE Greek Leadership Conference in Atlanta Georgia with FSU Panhellenic, MGC and NPHC chapter presidents, Panhellenic Exec and staff!

SEGreek Leadership Association Continued Efforts

The Southeastern Greek Leadership Association traces its roots to the founding of the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC) during a meeting of student leaders, fraternity professionals and advisors in Jackson, Mississippi in 1966. For over 50 years, the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC) provided educational leadership experience for fraternity men in the Southeast.  In 2018, SEIFC partnered with the Southeastern Cultural Greek Leadership Summit (SCGLS) to provide council officer training for leaders of culturally-based fraternities and sororities. At our 2019 Leadership Academy, SEIFC Executive Director Gary Wiser announced that it was time for us to begin a new journey and enhance the leadership experience as the Southeastern Greek Leadership Association (SGLA). Along with programming for current participating groups, the SGLA experience will also include programming for Panhellenic leaders. The inaugural leadership conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia, February 20-22, 2020.

SE Greek Leadership Association Mission

To strengthen fraternal communities throughout the Southeastern United States through quality programs, training and services to fraternity and sorority members and those who advise and support these communities.

SE Greek Leadership Association Vision

The Southeastern Greek Leadership Association will be the regional leadership conference of choice for fraternity and sorority governing councils that are seeking quality education, training and development opportunities. SGLA will provide a unique, high-quality regional conference experience designed to provide officer training, collaboration among and between governing councils, and engaging, relevant educational programs.

2024 Senior Bid Day ..

Many of our seniors joined the chapter in 2020, and thus their bid day occurred during COVID – with shifts of new members arriving at home, no sisters to greet them, masks, and boxed food – we wanted to give our seniors a true bid day. Thus the Membership Programming Committee and Senior Appreciation Chair worked to plan a Bid Day for our graduating seniors. We had the seniors meet at Westcott Fountain for a surprise and then announced they would be running home. They were greeted at 518 by their little sisters and signs, and came into the chapter for karaoke and an ice cream Sunday bar!

2024 Galentines

The ladies of Alpha Chi Omega celebrated Galentines with dinner at the chapter house. The event is always a chapter favorite with elevated decor, servers vs buffet line, three formal seatings of sisters, and more! We are thankful to the Programming Committee for organizing, and our Chapter Advisor, Chefs, and house gentleman for working!

During Healthy Relationships week

Appetizer: Caprese salad with balsamic Glaze Main Course: Select: 6 oz. Steak, Lobster Tail, or Stuffed Portabello Mushroom with buttered angel hair, seasoned baked green beans and assorted cheesecakes for dessert.

2024 – Palentines with Best Buddies

We partnered with Best Buddies at FSU to host the FSU Students and their buddies for a Palentines Event. All in attendance enjoyed food, crafts and fellowship. Best Buddies is an international non-profit organization that focuses on forming friendships with people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as providing opportunities for leadership and jobs.

At FSU, Best Buddies works to foster a positive environment based first and foremost on inclusion. Each month, the members participate in fun and exciting events, such as a Field Day, Talent Show, Holiday party, and much more! Palentines is one of those signature events, and we are happy to be a part of it. This is a fantastic organization to join if you are looking to meet awesome people and create life-long friendships.

2024 LUNAR NEW YEAR

This year Lunar New Year fell on a weekend. Thus the chapter worked to share informational graphics on social media and then celebrated with authentic food on Monday. We were so busy celebrating, we forgot to snap photos other than the one below..

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture, those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family.

Commonly known as the Spring Festival in China, Lunar New Year is a fifteen-day celebration marked by many traditions. At home, families decorate windows with red paper cuttings and adorn doors with couplets expressing auspicious wishes for the new year. Shopping for holiday sundries in open-air markets and cleaning the house are also beloved traditions. The Lunar New Year’s Eve reunion dinner is the highlight that kicks off the holiday, a feast with a spread of symbolic dishes, such as a whole fish representing abundance, that bring good luck and fortune. The fifteenth and final day of the holiday is the Lantern Festival, during which people have tangyuan, or sweet glutinous rice balls, and children carry lanterns around the neighborhood at night to mark the end of the celebration.

In the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the year of the dragon. Different regions across Asia celebrate Lunar New year in many ways and may follow a different zodiac. We also acknowledge that many Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders do not observe the Chinese/lunar zodiac.
