2023 – AXΩ Sisters take on the Tallahassee Half & Full Marathon!

The first Tallahassee marathon was held in 1975. Runners from across the state enjoy running through Florida’s capital city on this urban course. This weekend sisters Kait, Caroline and Emma participated in the event! We are so proud of our sisters for crossing the finish line!!!

The Tallahassee Marathon and Half Marathon begins on Monroe Street across the street from the Florida Capitol. Runners begin travelling north through Downtown before turning onto the rolling hills of the Glenview Drive residential area, through trendy Midtown, and on the tree-lined Calhoun Street and Franklin Boulevard.

After passing the Smoky Hollow Commemoration, runners loop around Cascades Park beside ponds and open green spaces, then climb the Lafayette Street hill to pass through the beautiful Myers Park neighborhood.

The runners next enjoy a long downhill as they cross the Capital Cascades Crossing pedestrian bridge and run along FAMU Way, getting into the Rattler spirit with Florida A&M University to the left and the funky Railroad Square Art Park to the right. The half marathon runners head toward Florida State University, and the full marathon runners turn onto the pancake-flat St. Marks Trail, a paved footpath in a former railroad bed with sections of tree canopy to enjoy. In the middle of the St. Marks Trail section, the course runs alongside Lake Henrietta and through the Jake Gaither neighborhood, so-named for the legendary Florida A&M University football coach.

The full marathon runners then re-join the half marathon course and make their way to Florida State University, passing through the Stadium Drive pedestrian tunnel leading past Doak Campbell Stadium and Dick Howser Stadium. The course then crosses through the southwestern end of campus and through the CollegeTown district’s Madison Mile to the finish line.

The course is on completely paved surfaces except for a 0.1 mile dirt access path on the full marathon route only.

2023 Rotational Program KALEIDOSCOPE

Kaleidoscope is Alpha Chi Omega’s newest rotational program which focuses on diversity, equity , and inclusion.   We had the opportunity to host alumna facilitator, Netania Young for the program this February!

To prepare for the program, chapter members worked to complete the assigned pre-work, Brave and Bold Dialogues. The training took approximately 30 minutes to complete. Developed by The Harbor Institute, the Brave and Bold Dialogues training walked chapter members through real-life scenarios to increase our awareness and understanding of the complex issues surrounding racism, built on a four-step approach: Be Aware, Be Considerate, Express Understanding and Talk About It.

The name “Kaleidoscope” was chosen for this program to connect to the ever-changing lens through which each sister of Alpha Chi Omega views the world. When looking through a kaleidoscope, we see a beautiful design created by overlapping pieces of glass; when we turn the kaleidoscope even just a degree, the pieces rearrange to form a new work of art. Each piece remains itself during the turning, but the way each piece relates to the others around it is always changing.

The work of diversity, equity, and inclusion requires all sisters to continually shape and shift their views as we learn more through conversations, education, and lived experiences. As we understand more about the pieces of our sisters’ identities – and how those pieces come together to form the real, strong women they are – we embrace our changing perspectives. We also learn more about ourselves and our own identities as we connect, lead, grow and serve in our lifelong Alpha Chi Omega journeys.

AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATING IN KALEIDOSCOPE MEMBERS WILL:

  • Identify and explore the four steps to Brave and Bold conversations
  • Implement Brave and Bold steps 1 and 2 through activities about unconscious bias and microaggression,  activities – learning how to disrupt and engage individuals in Brave and Bold conversations
  • Identify the importance and relevancy of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
  • Recognize the relationship of unconscious bias and microaggressions
  • Apply best practices to address unconscious bias and microaggressions
  • Consider varying perspectives through group engagement and discussion around privilege and power
  • Recognize the relationship of privilege and power in a fraternal context
  • Apply best practices to address DEI issues and challenges through chapter experience

2023 Sisterhood Event to Tallahassee Nursery and Pot Painting…

VP Membership Development Emma and the committee planned a sisterhood event where sisters went to Tallahassee Nursery to pick out plants and pots and enjoy a day outside followed by a pot painting event at the house. The event was a great way to destress and enjoy all that the Tallahassee community has to offer!

2022 AXΩ Seminole Torchbearers

The Torchbearer 100 is the start of recognizing the most outstanding students who, because of their service and leadership, have made a significant impact on student life at Florida State.

Without each member of the Torchbearer 100, Florida State would not be the dynamic institution it is today. Being inducted requires nothing of its members, but aims to thank and celebrate these students for being a testament to Florida State’s legacy of leadership within the student body. As the reputation of the Torchbearer 100 builds, being of the network will become a recognizable mark of distinction representing leaders of change, devotion to FSU, and promise for continuing to make a notable impact after graduation.

We are excited to share that sisters Mary Hannah, Tia and Natasha were inducted!

2022 Alpha Chi Omega participates in FSU Line Dance

Alpha Chi Omega participated in the annual FSU Line Dance Competition. Line Dance is the largest Greek-run philanthropy on Florida State’s campus. The event is hosted by the men of Pi Kappa Alpha, Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Theta Chi. The philanthropy involves Share-It night events with local Tallahassee restaurants as well as 3 larger programming events!

2022 Alpha Chi Omega Celebrates Holi

Alpha Chi Omega Celebrates Holi. Holi is an ancient Hindu tradition and also one of the most popular festivals in Hinduism. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of Radha Krishna. The day also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it commemorates the victory of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu. The chapter celebrated with a traditional colored powder throw, followed by traditional Holi meal
