Real. Strong. Women. Weekend

The ladies of Alpha Chi Omega hosted the Real. Strong. Women. in our lives at our home away from home this past weekend. Following Florida State University and Alpha Chi Omega COVID-19 health and safety guidelines & capacity caps – Ayva, VP Membership Programming, Piper, Family Weekend Chair & committee worked to create a weekend full of options to enjoy.

Note it was encouraged those that are at higher risk or more vulnerable to illness from COVID-19 avoid events and gatherings. The chapter also shared COVID-19 protocols and encouraged all members and guests to review ensure protocols were followed for the weekend.

Friday night the chapter encouraged members and guests to support local businesses – They suggested some favorite locations and provided the Visit Tallahassee link for all to visit.

Saturday the chapter provided various options to members and guests and provided a way for sisters to sign up for each event to ensure capacity caps were followed while also allowing members to plan to attend with others members. Events included making appointments at Royal Nails Spa to get a manicure or pedicure; Picnic at Maclay Gardens; Picnic at Wakulla Springs State Park; Pre-recorded Virtual Cooking classes; Small group In person cooking Classes with Chef Owen; and A/R Workshop events.

Sunday we partnered with local caterer Bluewater Cooking to cater a brunch. Members & guests signed up in shifts of 50 with time to sanitize in between. Sisters entered the front of the house where the signed in for their shift, and picked up any merchandise they ordered. They then flowed through dinning room where they picked up food, and were able to shop Campus Greek and Gypsy Rose boutique – from there they continued outside to eat under a tent with socially-distanced tables!

Beta Eta Members & Advisor Attend Collegiate Growth Academy

Beta Eta VP Recruitment, Ellie & Chapter President, Gaby (standing in for VP Recruitment Information Jordan) had the opportunity to attend Virtual Collegiate Growth Academy this past weekend. The training was a great opportunity for chapter officers to acquire new recruitment strategies and strengthen conversation skills, while learning how to create a values-based recruitment.

Alpha Chi Omega HQ did an amazing job of bringing the virtual conference to life. From the package of conference and PACE materials sent out prior to the interactive app – amazing guest speakers, breakouts and rotations were were able to connect – grow and learn! We couldn’t be more excited to bring all we learned back to the chapter & are already looking forward to recruitment 2021!

Beta Eta Celebrates sisters Academic Achievements with Dean’s List desserts!

The Beta Eta chapter of Alpha Chi Omega holds sisters academic interest in high regard. The VP Intellectual Development, Grace Castilow and her committee work to assist all sisters in their academic endeavors at Florida State University. From hosting study hours, connecting sisters with fellow sisters/alumnae in their major/field, sharing to sharing academic opportunities for internships, scholarships, grants. The committee is always working to elevate and support sisters academically.

One of the favorite events of sisters each semester is Deans List Dessert. The event celebrate those sisters who were recognized by the University for a 4.0 (President’s List) or a 3.5 of above (Dean’s List). The event is a casual affair in dress, but an elevated affair with custom dessert creations from the chapters chefs!

Sisters Celebrate Lunar New Year

The chapter celebrated Lunar New Year on Friday February 12th! Lunar new year is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese Calendar. It is also called the spring festival and is the most important of the traditional Chinese Holidays. The Chapters VP Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Alara worked with the chapters’ chefs to elevate the planned meal for the day. Alara also worked to incorporate traditional items to celebrate the special day. Before/after each sister sat down tables were cleaned and placemats were set out at each space that explained the Chinese Zodiac. As members went through the buffet line (were they were individually served by severs per COVID-19 guidelines) they had the option to select a traditional red envelope. It is traditional to give the gift of the red envelope, known as hongbao to your friends and family. But not just any envelope. They are traditionally filled with money and symbolize good wishes and good luck for the new year ahead. The importance of hongbao isn’t the cash held inside; it is actually the envelope itself. The red color symbolizes good luck and prosperity. Instead of cash, inside each of the envelopes the ladies at Alpha Chi Omega received were either a slip directing members to select a piece of Alpha Chi Omega merchandise or a Chinese proverb. (note we have a select few that did have a $5 or $10 bill)

The VP PR & Marketing worked to provide educational posts on social media explaining the importance of the day and cultural celebrations to all who viewed our story.

Congratulations to sister Jaiden Gurbuz

Florida State University’s motto is “Vires, Artes, Mores,” which translates to “strength, skill and character.” Student Ambassadors are FSU students who embody this motto. The University Ambassadors are a distinguished group of student leaders who share their student and academic experience with prospective applicants, parents and guests. By sharing their unique student perspective and university knowledge, Ambassadors assist the Office of Admissions in student recruitment. This includes, but is not limited to, leading campus tours, serving on student panels and connecting with both prospective and admitted students/families. In response to current safety regulations and guidelines, we have adapted our program to offer virtual events. Sister Jaiden Gurbuz serves as a FSU Student Ambassador and was recently promoted to be a trainer for new ambassadors joining the team.

Chapter hosts local Girl Scout Troop 103

The ladies of Alpha Chi Omega were able to support future Real. Strong. Women. aka local Girl Scout troop 103 in February to cap their Galentine’s Dinner. The chapter worked with the troop to host them and support their cookie efforts in a COVID-19 friendly way. The Girl Scouts set up in front of the chapter house along Park Avenue during dinner.

The chapter advertised via social media and to Greek chapter presidents and Panhellenic delegates. Also seen below is a text from the Girl Scout troop leader to the chapter advisor and VP Risk Management! It is always so great to get feedback that the words and actions of the chapter members are making a difference & impacting the community! Tonight they again did just that!

Pizza Pie with Alpha Chi surpasses goal!

The ladies had an amazing adapted philanthropy event highlighting Healthy Relationships Week, led by VP Philanthropy Lexi Larkin. The chapter surpassed their $5,000 goal and raised it to $7,000 and they are almost there!!! They are continuing to fundraise through the end of February!

In light of COVID-19 the annual event was adapted to be a drive thru event with individually packaged single slices and bottled water. https://alphachiomega.crowdchange.co/17258
