Family Weekend 2021

This years family weekend began Friday night with the annual DVA gala. The gala was hosted at Bricks and Brass where sisters were able to arrive from the Alpha Chi Omega house by trolley. The gala featured a silent auction, live music, and a dinner for sisters and guests to enjoy. Thank you to VP-Programming Avya Oberman & VP- Philanthropy Lexi Larkin and their committees for all of your hard work!

Saturday sisters had the opportunity to go to the FSU vs. Syracuse football game. After a close game FSU celebrated with a win over Syracuse!

On Sunday there was a brunch hosted at the Alpha Chi Omega house. This was a chance to pick up silent auction items & photos, and reminisce on a wonderful family weekend!

Ritual: What Makes Us Sisters; Celebrating Founders’ Day

How special for us to welcome alumnae for Founders’ Day Dinner as we remembered and gave thanks for Bertha, Estelle, Amy, Nellie, Bessie, Olive, and Anna! Thanks for joining us Arlene, Gamma Chi chapter (and mother of Beta Eta Colleen) and Natasha, Kappa Chi (getting her PhD in Math from FSU!)

Livin’ Lovin’ Learnin’ with MC22

Lila, VP-NME; AlexM and BriM, Asst NP-NME; Lucy, Mystagogue Coordinator; Amelia, Scarlet Chair; Morgan Olive Chair; and ZoeM Creative Bid Day Chair were always spicing things up for the new members – they set the bar “to the heights”.

Lila kept everyone task and ENERGIZED with her facilitation and guidance skills.

They always started with a new ice breaker and ended with a mystagogue reveal making the evenings productive, insightful, and amusing. Different speakers at each meeting also helped reinforce the sisterhood connections and options available at Alpha Chi Omega and Florida State University.

New Member Retreat 2021

This past weekend Alpha Chi Omega welcomed 78 new members at the annual New Member Retreat in Panama City Beach, Florida.

The weekend began by checking into the Cottages Retreat and all of the new members met their facilitators for the weekend. New members were broken into small groups to meet those in their member class in a group led by an initiated sister. Time spent at the retreat consisted of icebreakers, games, bonding activities, a beach afternoon, and ended with a friendly dance competition. The new members were able to hear stories and get advice from older sisters about all aspects of life, and what Alpha Chi Omega really means to them.

This was a wonderful weekend of growth, bonding, and sisterhood and we are looking forward to seeing all of our new members thrive in the Beta Eta chapter.

MyJourney – Living an Intentional Life

The groups warmed up with two sisters from each class sharing about their PASSION

And then we explored: ARE WE LIVING INTENTIONAL LIVES?

What does it mean to live an intentional life? How do you know if you’re living one? Or if you aren’t living one? Living an intentional life does not mean you are living a perfect life; it means you are living your life with meaning and purpose. It means you are an active participant in your life, and you are engaged each and every day.

After our exploration, we spent a bit of time on these questions to put us in a positive mindset for the semester (and it was a clever way to take attendance!)
• What are two things on your bucket list?

• What is one thing you can do each day to get out of the daily grind?
An important point in facilitation is APPRECAITING those who participate and tonight we closed with: THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING and being present for your sisters and for your own growth! LITB

Beta Eta Bid Day 2021

VP NM Education Lila, Bid day Chair Zoe and the NM Education committee- organized a bid day to remember. Taking a twist on Beverly Hills hotel – 518 was decorated with custom banners, faux awnings, a Kombucha truck, painted letters etc. for the occasion.

The chapter welcomed home 78 new members! Which was quota at FSU. Following recruitment Panhellenic set chapter total to median chapter size of 263 fo the campus, and Alpha Chi Omega currently has 283 members!

Sisters venture to Providence Canyon State Park for a weekend hike

This weekend sister Ayva O. made an announcement asking if any sisters wanted to make the trip to Providence Canyon state park in Lumpkin, Ga. 30+ sisters jumped at the opportunity for a weekend hike! After a car ride that allowed for sisters to bond and catch up – they arrived at the Park. Since park staff are temporarily limiting access to ensure social distancing and protect the health of the public – the ladies were able to enjoy the hike without the crowds!

Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon” is a testament to the power of man’s influence on the land. Massive gullies as deep as 150 feet were caused simply by poor farming practices during the 1800s, yet today they make some of the prettiest photographs within the state. The rare Plumleaf Azalea grows only in this region and blooms during July and August when most azaleas have lost their color. The canyon soil’s pink, orange, red and purple hues make a beautiful natural painting at this quiet park.

Visitors can enjoy views of the canyons from the rim trail, taking care to stay behind fences and off the fragile canyon edge. Hikers who explore the deepest canyons will usually find a thin layer of water along the trail, indication of the water table below. Guests who hike to canyons 4 and 5 may want to join the Canyon Climbers Club. Backpackers can stay overnight along the backcountry trail which highlights portions of the canyon and winds through mixed forest. Camping, cottages and efficiency units are available nearby at Florence Marina State Park on 45,000 acre Lake Walter F. George.

MAY – MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

While the chapter may be “out for summer” and spread across the nation – members worked virtually to celebrate Mental Health Awareness month actively sharing resources on social media. Check out our Metal Health Highlight on Instagram

The chapter is proud that Alpha Chi Omega was able to partner with Active Minds this May for Mental Health Awareness Month. The goal to share the power of #HereForYou!

While today marks the end of the month – we encourage all who haven’t yet to Take the pledge and commit to letting people in your life know that you’re available and willing to help and support their mental health.

Share the pledge with sisters and talk about educational resources available to members to help promote emotional well-being not only this May but everyday!
