Senior Spotlight – Kala Scott

Kala grew up in Jacksonville and will graduate Fall 2020 with a Master’s in Public Relations with a Minor in Spanish and Recreation, Tourism and Events. At Beta Eta she served as Freshman Intellectual Development chair, fundraising chair for three semesters, and co-technology chair for 2020 Recruitment. On campus she volunteered as Co-Director of Public Relations 2020 Light the Night Executive Board.

During Summer and Fall 2020 Kala interned for Three Grains of Rice Ministries in Jacksonville. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting people to volunteer opportunities in the area. Specifically, they work with other non-profits serving the homeless, women, children and the Hispanic community to allocate funds and resources.

Kala helped produce a newsletter and collaborate on their website. Kala’s internship allowed her to practice her communication skills even during the pandemic. The opportunities at Three Grains of Rice, Alpha Chi Omega and Light the Night taught her more about non-profit management and allowed her to flex her fundraising abilities, strengthen her leadership aptitude, and understand group dynamics, and prepare Kala to segue into pursuing her dream job of fundraising management.
