A Day in the Life at the 518

One of the greatest experiences of being a Beta Eta sister is the chance to live with 40 of your closest friends in the Alpha Chi house! Besides living with your best friends there are so many reasons why sisters love living in house!

There are multiple study spots throughout the house which are perfect for your zoom calls & classes, studying with your friends, or a quiet spot to really focus alone.

You are never more than a flight of steps away from the best food, and the 24/7 kitchenette. Can’t forget we have the best staff too!

You have the chance to live with your best friends or be just a few doors down from them!

It is truly the best way to get the most out of your sorority experience.

From bachelor nights on the brown couch to becoming friends with someone you never knew before there are so many wonderful opportunities that come from this special time of living in house!

Allyship and Hera Day

Three Vice Presidents collaborated to bring us a conglomeration interweaving our MyJourney based on “How to be My Sister’s Ally” and Hera Day: VP Membership Programming, Ayva; VP Diversity Equity Inclusion, Alara and VP Ritual Fraternity Appreciation, Leanne.

We heard such positive responses from sisters for the event and the two invited speakers who contributed to the insightful evening. We welcomed Lauryn Feacher a fellow FSU student from the Center for Leadership and Social Change, and Amaya Waymon, Rickards High School student and founder of Girl Flo.

“This is such an important topic.” Sophie Surowiec

“So intersting about the food pantry vs. feminine products. I never thought about it like that in high school and it’s so important.” Bailey Wagoner

“I love the guest speakers.” Sophie Breeze

The speakers covered an impressive spread of topics helping us learn and understand: Being an Ally for a friend with autism/a sister coming out to her family/ a cousin with a medical condition/Black Lives Matter Marches; Allyship; Being an Active Ally; Performative vs. Active Allyship; LGBTQIA Allyship and Period Poverty and discussing our focus for Hera Day (collecting tampons and pads to assist Amaya and her Girl Flo project!)

Art Walk – Local Fun to Celebrate Sisters & Art

VP Ritual and Fraternity Appreciation Leanne Bell planned an Art Walk to celebrate Sisterhood and MacDowell Month (our fine arts founding). Beta Eta is lucky to have a deeper connection as well because our local alumna Amanda advocates for The Arts and works for the Council for Cultural Arts (COCA) and our young alumna Gabi. Tallahassee enjoys art on corners and in different art districts around town. Keep your eyes open and “see beauty in the common things of life”.

InTune (part of the RSW Experience)

“With the Real. Strong. Women. Experience, [Alpha Chi Omega] promise[s] to help [members] along [their] journey of becoming the best version of [theirself]. Through the programs we offer and the community built within [each] chapter, you’ll discover what wisdom, devotion and achievement mean to you and how you can have an impact on our Fraternity and our world. Through the Real. Strong. Women. Experience, Alpha Chi Omega cultivates impactful communities where women are inspired to connect, lead, grow and serve.”

The Chapter receives all-chapter training on a four-year rotating schedule from our Headquarters and volunteer professional Higher Ed facilitators. The four programs include InTune, Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP), REPRESENT and Let’s Talk Love. These four distinct rotational programs cover topics such as vulnerability, reducing risk, personal branding, dating violence and more.

Thanks to MC ’20 Giana for putting her whole self into the event and sharing her feedback: “I absolutely loved the InTune zoom session! It was very interesting to see everyone’s different views of vulnerability. My breakout group discussed the topic of sisterhood and why there was a discrepancy between individual and chapter importance. It was more important to sisters on a personal level than a chapter wide level. Our group brainstormed some ideas on how to have more inclusive activities that involved girls branching out from their immediate friend groups to get to have a stronger chapter wide sisterhood. I loved the idea that we broke out into small groups that involved girls that I have never personally talked to. I think InTune also brought the whole chapter together because it was great to talk about ways to improve the chapter that we all love and are a part of.”

2021 Staff Appreciation Week

We are thankful to the alumnae and staff who work to make 518 more than a house – truly 518 is our home away from home. This week during AXΩ National Housing Appreciation week. We celebrated some of our favorite aspects of 518, while also celebrating the staff that Pearl Stone Partners has hired and deployed to our chapter. We are so thankful for each of them.

We chose to surprise our House Director and Kitchen Staff with signs creating them when they arrived in the morning. (note yes the house director lives at the facility, we put the sign up after she went to bed for the evening so it would greet her in the am)

Another day we filled the dinning room and area outside of our house Directors apartment with hearts that sisters had written on thanking the staff and sharing their favorite things.

Another day we surprised the staff with their favorite candy. The week was a ton of fun! and while this week was our “official appreciation” week – we are so thankful for our staff each and everyday.

Fill your Cup with AXΩ

Where you can find sisters on a Friday night? Filling their cup with each other! Sisters voted for a favorite movie and gathered to “fill their cups” both literally and figuratively. VP Risk Management, Bree Sutherland partnered with her committee and fellow executive board members on this fun event! Sisters were able to fill their custom cups with freshly popped movie popcorn & then customize their snack with various chocolates, nuts and garnishes.

The event was also a great mental health break as we wrap up the half way point in the semester…

2021 SGA Union Board Elections

Proud of our two sisters who decided to enter the SGA elections in Spring 2021.

Junior Jenna Dake and Freshman Nina Chong are both on the Ballot for Union Board. Thank you for seeking to improve FSU for your fellow sisters and students.

Update: Election Results! Both Jenna and Nina won!!!! We are so proud of our sisters !!

MacDowell Month – Appreciating Our #finearts Founding

Thanks VP RM Bree and VP RFA Leanne for kicking off MacDowell Month by preparing a mental health break that also highlighted our Alpha Chi Omega hertiage and founding! We painted canvases (so many artists) 🤗

AND, for the end of the month, our PRM team highlighted our sisters’ talents on our Insta. story 2/23. So proud to know them!

Don’t Let Abuse Derail Your Dreams Livestream

We were proud to support and attend the DVCC live event: Don’t Let Abuse Derail your Dreams. We were able to hear survivor stories from others who have experienced dating abuse and learn ways to help someone in an abusive relationship. We also learned ways avoid an abusive relationship. We are thankful to the entire panel for taking time out of their night tonight to share and shed light on this important cause.
